Batman has one code: do not kill. Sometimes properties go against these known rules like 2016’s awful Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where Batman literally shoots people with a gun. Not a gun that propels sleeping gas, but an actual gun with bullets. Batman shooting a gun is the least of that film’s problems though. Anyway, Batman also kills dudes in the Arkham games, even if it isn’t as obvious. The damage he does to some henchmen is violent that they’re either dead or so close to it they want to be. Plus, Batman Arkham Knight introduces the Batmobile, which is a whole other can of worms. Like my Final Fantasy VII theory regarding death, I have one for Batman as well that solves this dilemma. I think the player sees reality where the in-game Batman thinks he’s holding back to keep his mind sane. Take a look at this CollegeHumor video , which sums up my point quite accurat

It’s hard to imagine, but Grand Theft Auto V dropped almost four years ago, and in that time, the game has gotten a PC port and new generation rereleases. Not unexpected from Rockstar’s marquee franchise. The GTA series has grown into one of the most popular modern video game franchises and with the release of GTA V has cemented itself as one of the most iconic in all of gaming. V gives you a ton of things to do, from an interesting, engrossing story to fun side missions, character customization, and mini-games found throughout the world. Along with its online mode, it’s one of the most inclusive games you can find out th

Grand Theft Auto IV was an even bigger offender. The re-designed Liberty City was able to be bigger and more expansive than ever, thanks to new consoles’ horsepower, but once again, Rockstar’s vision of vastness ended up making the game more tedious than it should be. Traversal was slow and cumbersome, thanks to messy, «realistic» physics for vehicles, leaving the entire game feeling restrictive. Sure, there was a lot to do, but the downtime between missions was more noticeable and intrusive than ever. What especially makes this such a problem is that open-world games’ major flaw, that downtime where you’re traversing from activity to activity, was solved. Open-world gaming had moved into other franchises like Assassin’s Creed (which offered a parkour traversal system that was smooth and acrobatic) and InFamous (which had a ton of fast, action-based missions that required mobility). Even licensed properties like The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction solved the problem of boring traversal with a fluid and momentum-driven way to get around the city (and that appeared in the generation before GTA IV). In that light, Grand Theft Auto IV was slow and fragmented, and with the world growing larger and larger with each new installment in the series, this problem was sure to escalate into downright tedium.
It’s hard to believe there was a world without Grand Theft Auto V on PC. Originally released in September 2013, GTAV broke practically every sales record and was lauded in almost every circle. When its «definitive» edition debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during last holiday season, many were questioning if Rockstar would be able to pull it off on PC considering the numerous delays and spotty track record. While they made huge promises and had all the potential in the world, whether or not they were able to optimize Grand Theft Auto V on a bevy of current and last generation machines was still up in the air. While it may have taken Rockstar 19 months to bring their biggest and best game to PC, the result was well worth the wait.
Over two thousand words into the review and it doesn’t feel like we’ve scratched the surface of Grand Theft Auto V. This is a sprawling experience, offering countless activities ranging from practicing yoga to smuggling guns. Playing around in its virtual sandbox is enjoyable enough to fill five game’s worth of playtime, but ignoring all of the world’s amenities and solely playing the missions still puts countless other action games to shame. More still, it features arguably the best story of the series that’s greatly enhanced by the added dynamic of three contrasting protagonists. There’s multiple hyperbolic statements that we could pile on to convey the excellence protruding from nearly every facet of the game (like that one), but all that matters is this: Grand Theft Auto V is both a step forward for the franchise and Funniest Trevor Philips moments an amalgamation of the best parts of its previous titles.

As anticipated as GTA V was, the hype gradually subsided once the game finally dropped and fans were more than content while playing through its campaign. But Rockstar upped the ante with the announcement of GTA V Online as it promised players four person heists with friends. People were really looking forward to it, but even when Online was made available on launch day people had to wait a little longer for heists to make their way into the fold. That isn’t the only disappointment fans had to deal with though, as —for a period of time— Online itself was just a busted mess. It was incredibly difficult to get into a session, and most players had to wait days before actually getting in. Some of those that did get in even lost their characters and had to start o
